Funding for Sport
Inspired Facilities Fund The Inspired Facilities fund could help you refurbish or upgrade your sports facility; or convert an existing building into a venue suitable for sport and accessible to the whole community. Part of Places People Play, Sport England’s programme to deliver a London 2012 legacy of increased mass participation in sport, it is investing £80 million of National Lottery funding in up to 1500 community sports projects between 2011 and 2014.
To qualify for a grant you will need to:
- Show how your project will keep and, ideally, attract more people to sport
- Demonstrate that it is needed and wanted by the local community
- Explain how it will cover its running costs and remain open for sporting use for years to come.

McDonald’s Kickstart grants for community football McDonalds have made £75,000 available through their Kickstart grant scheme, supporting community football. Football clubs applying need to be recognised by the FA, and have at least one team at or below junior level (U18). They can apply for one-off grants of between £500 to £2500 for things like: - club facilities, grounds-keeping tools, training courses, pitch hire, mini-vans and washing machines There are four application rounds this year - the next closes on 30 June. Community Sport Activation Fund The fund supports grassroots activity at a very local level. Projects could be for up to three years and the grants will range from £50,000 - £250,000 with partnership funding required. Promotes the participation in rowing of young people (those under 18 or still in full time education) and the disabled of all ages. The Kent Trust for Youth Sport is a charity which aims to help young people within the County to participate in sport. They have two funding streams available:
1) Cornwallis Sporting Excellence Awards for Individuals The aim of the awards for individuals is to develop / support sports excellence. Awards are available to assist high level sports performers with the costs of specialist equipment and clothing, competing, travelling to competitions and training. Deadline for applications is 1st December 2012
2) Sports Grants for Clubs and Community Organisations The aim of the grants to clubs and community organisations are to help young people (aged under 21 years) within the County to participate in sport. Deadlines for applications are: 1st September and 1st December 2012

Ron Pickering Memorial Fund Applications are invited from young track and field athletes who are in education and may need financial help towards training or provision of equipment. Applicants must be aged between 15 and 23 years, medalists from their National Schools AA, AAA U17, & U20 or U23 Championships or in the top six of the appropriate UK ranking lists. Active Dover Grants Available to sports clubs across the Dover District who are searching for funding in order to achieve one of the following aims;
- Clubmark Accreditation (from NGB equivalent / Sport England's Clubmark Accreditation),
- Increase the number of training opportunities for; coaches, referees, committee members and club volunteers,
- Increase overall participation / membership, (target areas; adult & family participation, women & girls
- participation, people on a low income, people with a disability, people from a minority ethnic group,)
- Improve performance of participants and associated competition costs,
- Associated promotion and publicity costs to any of the above

The Fuserna Foundation revitalises and supports charities and charitable projects that are subject to financial constraints and have a combined lack of exposure and publicity in relation to their charitable cause. The Foundation will usually issue grants between £5,000 and £15,000. Applications can be submitted at any time.

Inspired Facilities is focused on making it easier for local community and volunteer groups to improve and refurbish sports clubs or transform non-sporting venues into modern grassroots sport facilities Community and voluntary organisations, including parish and town councils can apply for grants worth between £20,000 and £50,000. Local authorities, statutory bodies and education establishments such as schools, can apply for grants between £20,000 and £150,000.

The Kelly Family Charitable Trust Grant Value:£1,000 - £5,000
The Trust prioritises funding in favour of charities whose activities involve all or most family members in initiatives that support and encourage the family to work as a cohesive unit intackling problems that face one or more of its members. Sport England - Small Grants Programme The Sport England Small Grants Programme uses lottery funding to make awards of between £300 and £10,000 to not-for-profit organisations to deliver new community projects to grow or sustain participation in sport.
Sport England will support:
They will not fund an individual, sole trader or partnership, organisations established to make profit or organisations not established in the UK.
Their main priorities are:

Projects increasing the number of adults participating in moderate intensity sports.Sport England has a target of getting 1 million more adults participating in 3 x 30 minutes of moderate intensity sport per week by 2012.

Projects seeking to reduce the drop off rates for 16-19 year olds, in particular the following sports - Badminton, Basketball, Football, Hockey, Gymnastics, Netball, Rugby League, Rugby Union, and Tennis. Research shows that large numbers of young people stop playing sport at this age.

Barclays Community Sports Award - £1,000 The Barclays Community Sports Award is a new award to recognise the outstanding achievements of individuals and groups that use sport to benefit communities across the UK. If you would like to nominate a person, group or not for profit organisation which has used the positive power of sport to make a real and lasting difference in their community then please complete the online form. Each monthly winner will receive £1,000 for their group or organisation, a limited edition trophy and will be entered into the end of season award to win a further £5,000. The end of season award winner will also receive a VIP trip to London to receive their award from Gareth Southgate. Any individual, group of individuals or not-for-profit organisation can enter the awards, in relation to a recent contribution they’ve made to the community through sport; however, there are certain exceptions. Peter Harrison Foundation Opportunities Through Sport – The trustees welcome grant applications from charities in the UK whose projects fall into the following categories:

Sports Grants Scheme Cash 4 Clubs is a sports grants scheme which provides funding to support grassroots UK sports clubs. It gives clubs a chance to win grants ranging from £250 to £1000. Grants can be to improve facilities, purchase new equipment, gain coaching qualifications, or generally invest in the sustainability of the club.
