The People's Postcode Lottery
Small Grants Programme provides grants ranging from £500 - £10,000.
Applications from registered charities and community groups in the South East will open on Monday April 8th
Does your project fall into one of these categories?
- Purchase of capital items
- Creation of community gardens/allotments
- Purchase and/or installation of energy saving devices/equipment
- Workshops that provide tangible results (such as qualifications or skills)
- Conservation of wildlife and habitats
- Diversionary projects for youths

Skipton Building Society Community Giving Programme
Skipton Building Society has recently created a new community giving programme in the UK to mark its 160 birthday and to make life better for local communities.
The new Community Giving Programme is offering 160 donations of £500 to local grassroots groups and organisations that are “passionate about making life better for others” but which get very little support elsewhere.
They’re looking for groups such as community allotments, groups running activities for young people, or social groups for the elderly, for example. They will consider all applications and are looking to support projects which get very little support elsewhere

Rural Community Broadband Fund
Voluntary and community sector organisations can apply now for funding to help establish superfast broadband in hard to reach communities in England.
Rural communities that missed the previous two rounds of the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs’ (Defra) £20 million Rural Community Broadband Fund have until 24 May 2013 to submit an expression of interest for round three.
You can apply if your community is in a rural location identified as being in the 10% hard to reach area which will get only standard broadband under the main Rural Broadband Programme being rolled out by your Local Authority. You will be asked to provide clear evidence supporting how you have established your project will be in a 10% area.
Acting on behalf of a community, eligible applicants can be:
- Social and community enterprises;
- Community Interest Companies;
- Community trusts;
- Charities;
- Private Businesses (non-Internet Service Providers); and
- Other formally constituted groups.
This is a rural community scheme. However, Local Authorities (including Parish and District Councils) may also apply on behalf of communities, or act as the managing authority for an application. Where this is the case, there must be a clear demonstration of community engagement and community support for the project.

Neighbourhood Planning fund and support programme
Locality is providing a new programme of support and grants, to help communities create neighbourhood plans.
People can use neighbourhood plans to shape development in their community, such as the location of new housing and businesses.
Programme & fund open 1 May
The Neighbourhood Planning fund and support programme will open on 1 May 2013 and last for two years. Groups will be able to bid for up to £7,000 each to help them produce their plan.

Tree Council
Offers help for tree planting through two grants programmes, the ‘Trees for Schools' and ‘Community Trees' funds. Any school or community group within the UK that is planning a project that actively involves children under 16 is encouraged to draw on the fund to plant trees and make a greener future.

CREATE Community Fund & CREATE Christian Fund
Both funds seek to support small one-off projects with grants of up to £500 where the grant makes the majority contribution to the project costs. The eligibility criteria for the funds are as follows:

Santander Foundation
The Santander Foundation now has two grants programmes to help disadvantaged people in the UK: Santander Community Plus and the Central Grants Programme
Santander Community Plus provides grants of up to £5,000. The scheme is open to small local UK charities or local projects of national charities with funding available to cover salaries, equipment or materials.

Vodaphone 2012 World of Difference UK programme
Applications for the 2012 World of Difference UK programme are now open. Each year, the Vodafone World of Difference UK programme gives 500 people the chance to work for a UK charity of their choice, and get paid.
For the first time, the World of Difference UK 2012 programme will be open to all previous participants and offers both full and part-time placements.

The Trust provides a funding programme for community improvement projects.
They support projects that make physical improvements to community leisure facilities and historic buildings/structures.

| Access to Elected Office Fund launched |
|
The Access to Elected Office Fund offers individual grants of between £250 and £10,000 to disabled people who want to be selected as candidates for an election, or who are standing for election.
The grants help meet the additional support needs that a disabled person has that are associated with their disability. If this support were not provided, a disabled person may face an additional barrier in the selection and campaign processes compared to a non-disabled person.
You can apply for money from the fund if you:
•can confirm you are eligible to stand for office under the requirements of electoral law, which are set out in the Electoral Commission’s guidance
•can provide evidence relating to your disability, and
•can show us evidence that you have been involved or interested in civic, community or other relevant activities.
The Fund will be open for applications until the end of March 2014

| Investment and Contract Readiness Fund |

The £10m Investment and Contract Readiness Fund is now accepting applications from social ventures enable social ventures to access new forms of investment and compete for public service contracts.
Grants between £50,000 and £150,000 will be available on a rolling basis to ambitious social ventures who will go on to raise at least £500,000 investment, or who want to bid for contracts over £1 million.
Ventures will be required to apply in partnership with an approved provider.
The fund will remain open for applications from April 2012 to at least September 2013.

The fund will support projects which….

Change public attitudes and behaviour by bringing together people who have experienced mental health problems with those who have not

Engage the public or local communities in meaningful conversations about mental health. This could be through events, training, arts, sports – be creative!

Are led throughout by people with lived experience of mental health problems – grants can only be awarded to constituted groups or organisations, but we will only fund projects which have people with experience of mental health problems in lead roles.
25% of the grants fund will be allocated to projects run by, and working with people from BME communities, and 20% are for projects working with children and young people.

This Fund supports projects which help the young and/or the disadvantaged achieve their potential.
Applicants must be a registered charity that has been in existence for at least 3 years.
Geographic area: Kent & Medway
The Fund will prioritise grants which enable strong charitable organisations to reach new levels of achievement, efficiency and sustainability.
Applications will typically be considered for:
- Capital expenditure – including equipment, new construction, renovation, and expansion which are critical to sustainability and achieving mission.
- Strategic IT projects – including investments in hardware/software which will enable expansion or efficiency in service delivery. (The standalone replacement of dated office IT equipment will not be considered.)
- Strategic organisational developments – including mergers and planning initiatives which use expert consultants to determine new, transformational paths.
The Fund will not consider:
- Applications for core/running costs such as general salaries, marketing, training or event sponsorship.
- Applications from individuals, political or sectarian organisations, mainstream schools and colleges, playgroups, community centres, sports clubs. Religious groups can apply but their services must be open to all and the grant cannot be used for the promotion of religion.
Grants will be one-off investments and not be awarded over multiple years.
The Fund will only support organisations in robust financial health. Applicants are required to provide their most recent audited annual accounts, up-to-date management accounts, and any other evidence (e.g. recent financial plans or funding commitments) which demonstrate the sustainability of the organisation.
The Fund will only support organisations with a demonstrably strong track record. Applications must include summary evidence of successful outcomes plus any external accreditation or evaluation of previous work.

Ward & Partners Charitable Fund - Grants available from £250 to £5,000
The Ward & Partners Charitable Fund makes grants to support charities, community groups and projects that directly benefit children with disabilities in Kent and Medway. There is a strong preference for projects that can demonstrate a direct benefit to children with disabilities with a clear indication of how many children will benefit. The fund will also consider applications for individual children.

Wilkinson's Helping Hands
Helping Hands is a new community initiative where each local Wilkinson's store has been given a budget to distribute to projects and schemes within the stores local community. To apply for a donation from the Helping Hands Fund you need to visit your local store and pick up an application form. These forms can be found on your stores red community boards or if you cannot find them, ask for assistance at the customer service desk.

Managed by the Community Development Foundation, the Neighbourhood Matched Fund is an initiative that provides local communities with the means to address their own priorities in some of the most deprived areas in the country.
- Communities will set up local panels in each eligible ward, and will decide upon projects for funding in their area.
- It is a matched fund programme, which means that every £1 provided in funding must be matched by a similar amount of in-kind donations (this means donations of cash, services, free products or volunteer time).

Funding for Communities
The International Communities programme is the Big Lottery Fund’s way of helping disadvantaged communities overseas. It has a budget of up to £80 million between 2010 and 2015.
They want communities to be at the heart of the International Communities programme. They will fund effective projects that tackle the causes of poverty and deprivation and bring about a long-term difference to the lives of the most disadvantaged people in the world. These will result in:
- Improved primary education for the most disadvantaged girls and boys
- Improved health for the most disadvantaged people
- Improved access to and use of natural resources to benefit the most disadvantaged people
- Improved ability for the most disadvantaged people to exercise their human rights
- Improved livelihoods for the most disadvantaged people by enabling communities in need, both rural and urban, to reduce poverty in a sustainable way.
The International Communities programme is open to UK based non-governmental organisations working with overseas partners in Africa, Asia (including the Pacific and Central Asian countries), the Middle East, Central and South America, the Caribbean, and parts of Eastern Europe. Read more...

| The Trust prioritises funding in favour of charities whose activities involve all or most family members in initiatives that support and encourage the family to work as a cohesive unit in tackling problems that face one or more of its members. Grants available for community groups in former coalfield areas
Community groups in Kent’s former coalfields are invited to apply for grants to help a range of projects for the future.
Grants from £500 to £5,000 are available through the Coalfields Regeneration Trust’s ‘Bridging The Gap’ fund, which is being delivered by Dover District Council. Groups can apply for grants to support activities that improve health and well-being, develop education and skills, support access to opportunities, and promote volunteering.
Examples of projects that Bridging the Gap grants can help with include:
- Improvements to a community facility, or the establishment of a much needed new service or activity in a community
- A project that helps people into a job, or a training project that teaches people a new skill or enables them to get a qualification
- Setting up a new social enterprise, or an activity that gets people involved in physical activity or addresses a local health issue
- Setting up a small transport scheme that enables people to access opportunities difficult to access because of their location
- The provision of places for after school clubs, holiday play schemes, playgroups or nurseries, or activities that promote volunteering.
Successful projects will have to target the former coalfields wards of Aylesham, Barham Downs, Eastry, Eythorne and Shepherdswell, Little Stour and Ashstone, Middle Deal and Sholden, Mill Hill, North Deal and St Margaret’s-at-Cliffe.
Coalfields Regeneration Chair Peter McNestry said: “The Coalfields Regeneration Trust is happy to be able to continue its investment in Kent. The Trust is still committed to improving the quality of life in coalfield communities. We are striving to make our former coalfields sustainable, prosperous, viable and cohesive without support. We are investing in them to become better places to live, work and play.”

Big Lottery Fund - Reaching Communities
The BLF have created a new £75m fund to turn existing facilities into buildings offering a wide range of activities for the benefit of a broad group of people in the community. Voluntary and community organisations and town and parish councils will be able to submit outline proposals for the renovation of any multi-purpose building currently used by communities, including memorial halls, community centres and village halls.

Trusthouse Charitable Foundation
Trusthouse gives grants for running costs or one-off capital costs to charities and not-for-profit organisations. They accept applications which address the following issues:
Rural community projects, urban deprivation, community support, drugs and alcohol rehabilitation, elderly support and respite for carers, ex-offender projects, young people - life skills and employment, physical and mental disability, palliative care, arts projects, education and heritage.

Grants for revenue and capital activity
The Henry Smith Charity makes grants work throughout the UK. Applications can be made for revenue and capital activity. Priority is given to work with groups experiencing social and/or economic disadvantage.
Grants of £10,000 or above are available through the Main Grants Programme applications can be made for both Revenue and Capital Grants

There are no deadlines, but the Trustees will meet this year in June, September and December to consider grant applications. They cannot guarantee your application will be considered at a particular meeting.
Queen Elizabeth II Fields Fund
SITA Trust has joined forces with HRH Prince William and the Fields in Trust to support the Queen Elizabeth II Fields Challenge. The Queen Elizabeth II Fields Challenge is a fantastic new campaign to protect 2012 outdoor recreation spaces in communities all across the country as a permanent living legacy of the Queens Diamond Jubilee. Once an area has been designated a QEII Field an application can be made to SITA Trust’s £1 million fund for improvements to the recreation area. It is anticipated that the fund will open mid 2011.

The Baily Thomas Charitable Fund - Grants from £250
Funding is normally considered for capital and revenue costs and for both specific projects and for general running/core costs.
Grants are awarded for amounts from £250 and depend on a number of factors including the purpose, the total funding requirement and the potential sources of other funds including, in some cases, matching funding.
Normally one off grants are awarded but exceptionally a new project may be funded over two or three years, subject to satisfactory reports of progress.
Grants may be given for building & renovation, employment schemes, play schemes, day centres, respite, independent living schemes, therapy pools and snoezelen rooms.

Fidelity UK Foundation
The Foundation primarily directs grants to UK registered charities in London, Kent & Surrey.
Charitable investments are mainly focused on projects in Arts & Culture, Community Development, Education & Health
Investment is typically directed to specific projects in the following categories:
- Capital improvements such as new construction, renovations, expansions and equipment which are central to sustainability and the strategic vision of the organisation.
- High impact information technology upgrades which substantially increase an organisation's efficiency, effectiveness and sustainability.

O2 Think Big
The O2 Think Big programme is for people aged 13 – 25 living in the UK. It supports projects that make your community a better place. This could be anything from starting a dance club to starting a revolution.
Initially if your project is accepted you will receive £300, training and support, £30 mobile credit plus more. Once you have completed your £300 project and things are going well you may be invited to Think Bigger and apply for up to £2500 plus free O2 broadband for a year, £50 mobile credit, a laptop and more.

Create Charity - Christian and Community Funds
The Christian Fund – makes small grants to local Church and Christian projects that are interdenominational and involve more than one church.
The Community Fund – makes small grants available to projects that seek to benefit their local community in the areas of hardship, distress, the aged or sick.
Both funds seek to support small one-off projects with grants of up to £500 where the grant makes the majority contribution to the project costs.

The Co-operative Membership Community Fund - Grants of up to £2,000
The Co-operative Membership Community Fund is open to community groups, voluntary groups, self-help groups, community charities and local branches of national charities.
You can apply for a grant of between £100 and £2,000 for anything from equipment to event costs. It can also help with running costs including rent, heat and light etc.

Trusthouse Charitable Foundation
Trusthouse gives grants for running costs or one-off capital costs to charities and not-for-profit organisations. They accept applications which address the following issues:
Rural community projects, urban deprivation, community support, drugs and alcohol rehabilitation, elderly support and respite for carers, ex-offender projects, young people - life skills and employment, physical and mental disability, palliative care, arts projects, education and heritage.

The Heritage Lottery Fund concentrates on projects which focus on heritage, this includes many different things from the past that they value and want to pass on to future generations. ACT Foundation
This funder provides grants to both individuals and organisations for activities which enhance the quality of life for people in need (specifically the mentally and physically disabled). Grants generally fall into the following areas:
- Buildings - Funding modifications to homes, schools, hospices etc;
- Equipment - Provision of specialised wheelchairs, other mobility aids and equipment including medical equipment to assist independent living;
- Financial assistance - Towards the cost of short-term respite breaks at a registered respite centre.
In the case of organisations, applicants should be charities registered for at least three years. Decisions on grants of up to £50,000 are normally made within one month of receiving your application.

B&Q Waste Donation Scheme
B&Q operates a waste donation scheme through all of its stores enabling schools, groups and charities to register with them to receive donations of DIY goods.
Before any materials are donated, a form must be signed by a representative of your group, and proof that you are a member of that group must be provided. Under this scheme, Biffaward look to award grants to projects that provide or improve community spaces, cultural facilities and places for outdoor recreation.
To be considered for the main Grants Scheme you first need to check your eligibility and complete an online expressions of interest application.

Gardening for Disabled Trust
Run from the Weald of Kent, the Trust gives grants to people in order that they may continue to garden, despite advancing illness, age or disability.
Money is given to successful grant applicants and often transforms the recipient as well as the garden, replacing a source of frustration by a valuable therapy and sense of satisfaction. Those helped by the Trust include:
- Gardeners with chronic back or hip trouble
- A wide range of disabilities including visual, physical and mental
- People who need to re-organise gardens because of failing health

The Tesco Charity Trust Community Awards
The Tesco Charity Trust Community Awards Scheme Provides one-off donations of between £1,000 and £4,000. The funding they give goes towards providing practical benefits, such as equipment and resources for projects that directly benefit children, the elderly and adults and children with disabilities, living in the local communities around their stores in the UK.
There are two categories of Community Awards:
