The VCS and Kent's Police and Crime Commissioner

In November Kent goes to the polls to elect its first ever Police and Crime Commissioner and Kent CAN have been asked by NAVCA and Clinks, a national charity, to provide the link between the PCC and VCS.

In the months leading up to November we will seek to create a network of VCS organisations. The Home Office is committed to providing support to the voluntary, community and social enterprise (VCSE) sector to adjust to the new policy and delivery landscape, where Police and Crime Commissioners (PCCs) will hold community safety funds. It is anticipated that the introduction of PCCs will involve public service provision being opened up to a wider range of providers and we want the VCSE to stand out in a competitive market place and be successful in its ambitions. The role of the Local Networks are critical in leading and working with the sector within police force areas to ensure that PCC candidates and the PCC once elected understand its value in reducing crime and keeping communities safe.

The main focusses of the network initially will be:

  • To provide evidence of the effectiveness of the work of the VCS for inclusion in the PCC’s initial reading list;
  • Feeding into the preparations of the Kent Police Authority for the arrival of the PCC where appropriate;
  • After the election, working with the PCC’s office to create a commissioning system;
  • Contributing on behalf of the VCS at strategic meetings; and
  • Any other issues raised and agreed by the network
There will be a launch conference to bring together as many organisations that would like to be involved as possible. There’ll be more information as it becomes available but to register an interest please follow this link

Collaborative fundraising challenges

The KM Charity Team is accepting requests from organisations wishing to have blocks of places at its shared fundraising events. In 2012 the KM Charity Team will stage three abseils and two sponsored bike rides at various Kent locations. It will also stage the KM Dragon Boat Race at Mote Park, Maidstone and the Kent Water Zorbing Championships in Herne Bay. All seven events can be used by any charity or good cause to raise funds for themselves. All of these receive media publicity through KM Group newspapers, kmfm radio stations and Kentonline website.

There is no cost to your good cause for taking up places at a collaborative event. KM Charity Team handle all aspects of the event ticketing, staging, sponsorship forms, stewarding and check-in – and will supply a promotional toolkit to help you let your supporters know about the event. The KM Team will stage a photocall with your local KM Group editor where you will receive the sponsorship raised. You can use these high profile fun events to beef up your fundraising calendar in 2012. km_charity_team_logo
